Metering with Orion

See the same network at the same measurement moment.

Orion's calculation cut-off approach moves the comparison of meters at different levels onto a shared time reference.

The Orion metering approach

The same measurement window

When parent and child meters share the same start and end reference, comparison error caused by time drift is reduced.

Consumption or closing index

One moment. One comparable network snapshot.

When period consumption values refer to the same calculation cut-off, parent and child meters speak within the same measurement window. This common reference reduces uncertainty caused by normal demand changes over the day.

01

Period consumption

Consumption for the completed period is stored at the configured calculation cut-off and can be used directly in a parent–child comparison.

02

Closing index

A closing index for the same moment can be stored where needed, and consumption can be derived from the difference between two period ends.

03

Delayed data is a state of its own

If a meter did not deliver data on time, the result must not be treated as complete; the calculation should be re-evaluated once the data arrives. The current product scope of this behaviour must be verified before publication.

The items below are confirmed by the product team before publication. This page makes no unverified precision or performance claim.

Published technical specifications must be verified by the product team.

  • Configuration range of the calculation cut-off and the time-synchronization method
  • Exact field names for period consumption and closing index
  • How delayed or missing data is added to the system afterwards
  • Measurement units, multipliers and the meter replacement scenario
  • Supported communication protocols and integrations

Hardware and data in one approach

A shared calculation cut-off is a strong foundation for hierarchical DMA analysis.

Orion stores consumption or a closing index at the configured cut-off, supporting a common comparison window across different network levels. The DMA model turns that data into parent–child context.
